Giltsharp launches new USB Swiss Army Knife with online short story competition

Giltsharp launches new USB Swiss Army Knife with online short story competition

Giltsharp, suppliers of professional catering and hairdressing products, is spearheading its launch of the much awaited `SwissMemory’ penknife, the Swiss Army knife equipped with a 64mb USB memory stick, with an online writing competition.

The online community has already expressed high enthusiasm for this new product since its announcement in February. Giltsharp’s competition is targeted specifically at this sector, made up of individuals who run their own websites, self-publish online or run Weblogs. The new product will be given away for the best short stories involving a classic Swiss Army knife in three categories: humour, fiction and true story. 50 Swiss Card Quattros will be presented for other stories of merit which are published on the Internet.

The competition has been devised by Screen Pages, who design and run Giltsharp’s online operations. Extracts from submissions will be published on Giltsharp’s site with links to the individual’s site.

Stewart Hardcastle, managing director of Giltsharp, said: “Swissmemory is at the forefront of modern technology, bringing the much loved Swiss Army Knife into the 21st Century. Swiss Army knives are about having versatile tools to hand anywhere: with the addition of the USB device, customers in the information age can take personal data anywhere at any time.”

Tim Ireland, head of online marketing at Screen Pages said: "It’s unusual for commercial products to be received enthusiastically by the traditionally cynical online and weblog community. This competition will bring forward people who love to write, encouraging them to highlight an enduringly successful brand which remains popular in the Internet era. It also recognises the talent of the millions of ordinary people who publish directly on the Internet.”
