Seamanship International presses ahead with new online store by Pindar Graphics

Seamanship International, the publisher of training and reference materials to the maritime industry, has re-launched its online shop with extended e-commerce capabilities. The new website has been designed and built by Pindar Graphics, the e-commerce specialist.

Seamanship was founded in 1998 and now supplies its products to 90 countries around the globe. Its publications cover all aspects of maritime operations from ship repairs and tankers to oil, liquefied gas and petroleum, chemicals, bulk and container cargo, CFR and IMO Books. Publications are available as traditional books, CD-ROMs and CBT, eBooks and technical reports.

The new website, at http://www.seamanship.co.uk, has been designed and delivered as a fully bespoke e-commerce website by Pindar Screen Pages.

Overall, the new website is designed to appeal to a global audience: the layout, design and usability of the site have been enhanced to yield a more professional, knowledgeable approach, suited for large corporate procurement as well as individual purchases.

The site includes best sellers, featured products, cross- and up-sells, stock control, informative product information and, importantly, same day dispatch. Given the nature of the products, a lot of attention has gone into product information and display, such as excerpts, reviews, customer testimonials, tables of contents and PDF downloads. Further, a weblog will provide commentary on industry initiatives and create a news service around the seafaring community.

“We are seeing significant growth on the Internet: our markets are increasingly global and our sea-faring customers are naturally purchasing more on the web. It has become an imperative that we introduce a better branded, better crafted and better built website to support the needs of our customer and our ambitions. We picked Pindar because they understood what we wanted and had the proven and relevant experience to back it up,” said Iain Macneil, founder of Seamanship.

“We are very pleased to be working with Seamanship,” said Roger Willcocks, managing director of Pindar Graphics. “It’s a business that has grown rapidly in a well-defined, yet global, niche and has terrific potential for building sales online. The products are world class and the company has a clear strategy with strong management.
