E-commerce benchmarks released for Q1 2008
Pindar has released its e-commerce benchmarking for Q1 2008. Highlights include....
* Most visitors do not enter shopping sites through the home page
* Best performing e-commerce sites achieve conversions of over 8%, four times the average
* A well-performing site gets one third of all visitors to the basket page
* Basket drop-out rates average 44%, although best performers can achieve less than 30%
Screen Pages monitors over 20 e-commerce metrics on more than 60 retail websites on behalf of its clients. Screen Pagess' Web Analytics Service includes the following metrics measured and reported quarterly: sources of traffic, site engagement, navigation, Basket activity and sales conversion. The sample sites are mostly niche retail brands and mail order businesses, with annual sales of between £1m and £20m on the internet.
Roger Willcocks, Director at Screen Pages, said: “Careful study of a large number of similar e-commerce sites can provide valuable insights. We can see at a glance what works and what doesn’t and our analysts can work with these retailers to improve results by analysing e-commerce performance in detail.”
The Analysis Service is available as an independent subscription service and Screen Pages will include subscribers’ own e-commerce data in the benchmarks – whether or not Screen Pages manages the retailers website.
