Salter

Salter launches new e-commerce website to increase sales of leading kitchen & bathroom scales brand

Salter Housewares was founded in late 1760 in the village of Bilston, England. By 1825, nephew George had taken over the company, which became known as George Salter & Co. and later established a large, well-equipped manufacturing site in the town of West Bromwich.

The business thrived throughout the 1900s and, by 1950, employed over 2000 people, still in the same area and owned by the same family. In 2002, the management team at Salter Housewares Ltd, backed by Barclays Private Equity, bought the company out from the group, to concentrate on its consumer businesses.

THE PROJECT:

Key goals for the new website’s capabilities include:
  • Improved and flexible navigation and merchandising options
  • Integration with Volo for order processing & inventory management (EsellerPro)
  • Clearer categorisation, together with filtering options and cross-sells and up-sells
  • Improved SEO
  • Better & easier-to-use search
  • A more streamlined checkout
  • Scope for additional content, such as instructions, 360o images
  • Integration with dotMailer for personalised, targeted email marketing

We wanted to implement a next generation e-commerce platform that gave us a lot more flexibility, control and content management – that was Magento. We knew from management’s previous experience that Screen Pages was a professional, dependable agency with a proven track record and strong e-commerce credentials who would deliver on time and on budget.
